INFESTATION, October 2020
installation, rOUGUE Gallery, St John's NL
Infestation is an exploration of the overwhelming thoughts and anxieties that exist in a person’s mind and inhibit their daily lives. In nature a multitude of toads or frogs is an indicator of healthy, thriving, ecosystem. While naturally they may be an indicator of well being, Infestation exhibits the toads as an invasion of space and thought. They signify a falsified stable environment while simultaneously becoming a projection of my own unstable mind. They are chaotic, overwhelming, and debilitation of the space. In this exhibition, the laser-engraved plexi toads are overwhelming, bright, distracting, and fake in their attempt of being stable. This attempt to show stability is reflective of my own attempts to show an exterior well being while the frantic, chaotic space of my internal mind runs unchecked.
